On February 3 2017, Ambassador Farnaud opened the exhibition ‘Objectif Sport’ at the Alliance Française de Pretoria.
This international photo exhibition on sport is presented by the Alliance Française network in South Africa.
Sport is a global phenomenon that touches all aspects of modern society. It is present in our streets, on our televisions and in our lives. Sport has never been as powerful and popular as it is today, it has never occupied such an important place in the global diplomacy and the relations between nations and people as now. It is a massive industry worth an estimated 91 billion dollars.
On a personal level, sport brings people together, whether it is to support a team, to take part in a competition or to simply enjoy taking part in an outdoor activity. It encompasses the values of openness, tolerance, social inclusion and drives attention to cultural diversity. Beyond soccer, tennis, formula one and their worldwide markets there is, indeed, a lot of unknown traditional sports such as Nepalese women wrestling, Indian bull fighting, etc.
The OBJECTIF SPORT exhibition, offered by the Alliance Française in Southern Africa is the outcome of the 2016 international photo competition organised by the Fondation Alliance Française in Paris. The 42 selected photographs were chosen from hundreds of submissions by photographers from 103 Alliances Françaises. The exhibition will tour South Africa this year in support of Paris’ candidacy to host the 2024 Olympic Games.
