Delegation of the French Senate to visit South Africa
(Gauteng and Cape Town, October 29 - November 3 2012)

The South African Friendship Group from the French Senate will pay an official visit to South Africa from October 29 to November 3. The multi-party delegation will be led by Senator Robert Hue, group chair, vice-president of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defense and Armed Forces, and will include senators Catherine Morin-Desailly and Simon Sutour.

Parliamentary visits play an important role in the broad political dialogue between our two countries. The visit of the friendship group takes place in the framework of the excellent bilateral relations between France and South Africa, and in particular this year of the French Season in South Africa.

The friendship group will be received in Cape Town from 1 to 3 November by the Parliament of South Africa, both the National Council of Provinces and the National Assembly, where they will meet members of various commissions. In Pretoria, Johannesburg and Cape Town, the delegation will also meet with members of the ANC and the Communist Party. The group will also have several opportunities to meet with representatives of civil society.

The Friendship Group monitors bilateral economic relations and cooperation. They will visit AFD projects in Johannesburg and meet with French business leaders. In addition, they will have an opportunity to meet with representatives of the French community in South Africa.
