Cinémalliance and Black Filmmakers Film Festival at the Alliance Française du Cap

- Cinémalliance - Les Héritiers (2014): 22nd August 2017


This month, for the Cinémalliance, the Alliance Française du Cap will be screening the movie Les Héritiers (2014) (English tite: "Once in a Lifetime"), directed by Marie-Castille Mention-Schaar, with Ariana Ascaride, Ahmed Dramé, Noémie Merlant.

Based on a true story, the film chronicles the relationship between a teacher and teenagers who have long since given up on the school system. This teacher of Leon Blum Highschool in Créteil, a mixed ethnic district of the Parisian suburbs, decides to enter her class into a national competition titled "Childen and teenagers in the Nazi concentration camp system". Initially tumultuous and frustrating, the atmosphere quickly evolves as they meet with a survivor of the camps and visit a musuem dedicated to this dark period of history. This experience will change their lives.

The movie lasts 1h45 and will be screening in French with English subtitles on August, 22th 2017 at 6:30pm at the Alliance Française du Cap (155 Loop Street). Free entrance.

As every last Wednesday of the month, the Alliance Française du Cap organizes the Black Filmmakers Film Festival (BFFF). The BFFF connects and showcases artists of colour from across the African continent and black diaspora through a series of events and workshops in the field of film and media. Through its various events, it seeks to establish itself as a principal port of call for aspiring black creative, empowering them to realize their ideas in a supportive environment marked by mutual assistance and purposeful collaboration.

This month the BFFF will take place on Wednesday 30th August 2017 at the Alliance Française du Cap (155 Loop Street) et 6pm. Entrance fee is R40 and there will be a cash bar and food for your enjoyment.
